This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘dr’ CCVC words.
As with the other consonant blends packs:
it is child-centred
child-friendly and
a step up from CVC and CCV to Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Phonics.
It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends.
This smaller pack contains:
Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan.
PowerPoint Presentation 1 - includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words and whole class activities to prepare children for their independent activities.
PowerPoint Presentation Phoneme Count - Again, as in the others, I have listed all the CCVC words and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures).
Encourage children to make simple sentences with the words to understand its meaning and distinguish between nouns, verbs or adjectives.
Flash cards and words with and without sound buttons and lines.
Set of pictures and words for matching activities.
Differentiated Activity Sheets 1, 2, 3 - for cut/paste work, writing sentences and reading and matching words to pictures.
You can combine the set of pictures and words with the other resources I have done on consonant blends - creating a set of pictures and words for future use.
Hope you enjoy using this product and thank you for your interest:-)
These are mixed CVC word cards. The words are jumbled/scrambled. Students can write the correct word or you can get them to type in the correct spelling as I have now included fillable blanks.
This is the updated version, but I’ve retained the old version in case you prefer the old version.
Also suitable for ESL/EFL students and students still finding it challenging to discriminate sounds.
A lovely addition to your phonics lessons or literacy centre.
Print onto card paper and laminate - use drywipe pens for activities or students can use the computer to type in the words.

There are 58 CVC cards and they have a double use.
How to use:-
The student looks at the picture and say what it is.
When s/he knows what the picture is they attempt to sort out the jumbled word by sounding out initial medial and final letters.
S/he then writes the word correctly on the line.
Other use:-
There are 58 cvc cards which are made up of 29 pairs of onset and rime words and pictures.
Lay out pairs of cards for the student to match the rhyming pictures and then unscramble the words and write on the lines.
As an extension they could write funny rhyming lines into their literacy books.
E.g. The pin is in the bin. The fan is in the pan.
